12”L x 9”H, Acrylic on Canvas

‘Tearing out my Heart’ was the first piece in my art portfolio. I created it to symbolize how it personally felt to be a queer identifying person in today’s world. Part of the piece symbolizes hope and joy for the queer identity that brings lots of joy, but the other part of the piece symbolizes how dangerous it is. “Tearing out my heart” represents how many queer people feel as if they live exposed to violence because of their orientation or identity, but wear their heart on their sleeve due to this massive part of themselves.
